Trilogical CEO Eyal Trichter Featured on the RAIL^UP Podcast
We’re excited to share that Eyal Trichter, CEO of Trilogical Technologies, was recently featured on the RAIL^UP Podcast, where he joined host Sebastian Sperker to discuss the technologies reshaping the future of rail – from mesh-based connectivity to predictive analytics and cybersecurity.
With over two decades of leadership in defence, aviation, and rail technology, Eyal brings a cross-industry perspective to the evolution of railway operations. In this conversation, he shares insights from Trilogical’s experience deploying advanced telematics systems around the world – and how innovation from other critical sectors is helping rail move into a smarter, greener era.
What Is Virtual Digital Coupling?
At the heart of the conversation is Trilogical’s Virtual Digital Automatic Coupling (VDAC) solution – a mesh-based wireless communication system that connects wagons and locomotives without the need for physical coupling.
Unlike mechanical couplers, VDAC creates a virtual link among all railcars, enabling real-time diagnostics, continuous train integrity monitoring, and efficient data flow—even if some wagons are unequipped or temporarily offline. The system auto-configures itself in motion and operates with exceptionally low energy consumption.
Why It Matters
This is more than just a connectivity upgrade. As Eyal explains, the real value lies in diagnostics, monitoring, and actionable insights. With growing pressure on freight rail to improve safety, reduce emissions, and compete with road transport, solutions like RailBlazer and VDAC enable operators to:
- Monitor train integrity wirelessly
- Predict maintenance needs using AI and edge computing
- Respond faster to shock or impact events
- Integrate cybersecurity protocols to protect operations
- Reduce carbon footprint through smarter logistics
Trilogical’s technologies are already deployed in Africa, Asia, and the Middle East – and the company continues to grow its footprint across Europe and the U.S.
Addressing the Innovation Gap in Rail
The podcast also touches on the barriers to innovation in rail: regulatory inertia, conservative mindsets, and limited investment in digital transformation. Eyal notes that even in regions with advanced infrastructure, meaningful change is slowed by risk aversion and outdated standards.
Yet the long-term vision is clear: by 2050, rail systems will need to be autonomous, green, fully connected, and seamlessly integrated into the wider mobility network. Bridging that gap will require new technologies—and new thinking.
